New York City is among the worst global cities for expats, but it continues to have a strong hold on people seeking a new life abroad. Among the 10 worst cities for expats this year are Paris (41st), London (42nd) and Berlin (45th). "One main problem with the big cities is that expats are less and less able to afford them," says Malte Zeeck, CEO and co-founder of Internations. The top three best global cities for expats are in Spain: Malaga, Alicante and Valencia. Want to be smarter and more successful with your money, work & life?

The settlement comes more than three years after Morgan Stanley notified the states' attorneys general of two incidents involving data security. Morgan Stanley as part of the settlement agreed to adopt provisions "that better protects the personal information of its consumers going forward," New York AG Letitia James ' office said. Some computers then ended up being auctioned off "while still containing consumers' personal information, including data belonging to 1.1 million New Yorkers," according to James' office. "In a second incident, Morgan Stanley discovered during a decommissioning process that 42 servers, all potentially containing unencrypted customer information, were missing," James' office said in a statement. An investigation found that Morgan Stanley failed to maintain proper controls for vendors and hardware inventory.

DeVito, a New Jersey native, called the decision to continue living with his parents a “no-brainer.”“Everything that I need is there at the house,” the 25-year-old told ESPN. “The decision was made since this level of football is stressful for a rookie, especially from the quarterback position. “Your mom helping with your wash, making sure you’re up on time, no distractions, unbelievable.”DeVito will start his first game for the Giants on Sunday. “Gets to be starting quarterback for the New York Football Giants.

Trump Testified at His New York Civil Fraud Trial
  + stars: | 2023-11-06 | by ( Matthew Cullen | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
During four hours of testimony in a Manhattan courtroom today, Donald Trump repeatedly attacked the judge overseeing the trial and defended himself against accusations of fraudulently misvaluing his properties. On the witness stand, the former president acknowledged helping assemble documents stating the value of his properties, which a judge had already decided were filled with fraud and which are central to the New York attorney general’s lawsuit against him. But he denied being involved in undervaluations and insisted that the financial statements were ultimately of little importance. The judge in the case, Justice Arthur Engoron, became frustrated as he repeatedly sought to rein in Trump, whose asides included proclaiming the proceeding was “a very unfair trial” and calling the New York attorney general “a political hack.” At one point, Trump complained that the judge had “called me a fraud and he didn’t know anything about me.”What’s next: Ivanka Trump will testify on Wednesday. What’s at stake: New York’s attorney general, Letitia James, who brought the case, has asked that Trump pay $250 million and that he and his sons be permanently barred from running a business in the state.

Its "SmartListen" feature uses patented AI-powered voice control to allow users to interact with videos in real-time. Adventr founder Devo Harris was previously a Grammy award-winning producer and music executive, who worked with artists like Kanye West and John Legend. The following week, Harris uploaded the same video but added interactive buttons so users could choose which scene to watch next. 23andMe used Adventr to let its customers ask a video of a genetic counselor whether they're likely to inherit a disease their parent has, for example. In the next six to 12 months, Harris says Adventr wants to incorporate more large language models and generative AI technology to make its voice controls more sophisticated.

Israel stopped monitoring Hamas' radio communications last year, NYT reported. But that assessment might have been different had they continued monitoring Hamas' hand-held radio communications, the report said. Militants also kidnapped 239 people and took them across the border to Gaza, Israeli authorities have said. Israel has carried out a devastating counterassault in response to Hamas' attacks.

CNN —A New York appeals court judge on Friday rejected Donald Trump’s attempt to stop the ongoing $250 million civil fraud trial, but temporarily halted the process of breaking up his businesses. We’re not seeking anything but a fair trial and these errors permeate the ongoing trial,” Trump attorney Christopher Kise said in court Friday, referring to “an avalanche of errors” in the summary judgment ruling. “And tellingly, they waited until after Mr. Trump decided to stop attending the trial,” the letter says. Trump attorneys and his co-defendants notified the appellate court that they’ve agreed with the New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office to discontinue the suit. Engoron handed down the summary judgment ruling last week, causing the appellate court to deny Trump’s request for a stay as moot because Engoron ruled as they requested.

Coming to a street corner near you: a sleek new litter basket, the latest weapon in New York City’s generations-long war on trash. The new receptacle, which will replace the green wire mesh litter baskets seen across the city, has three parts: a concrete base (so it’s tough to tip over); a hinged metal lid; and a removable, relatively lightweight plastic basket that sanitation workers will lift and empty. “The wire litter baskets are iconic, but they are well past their useful life in New York City,” said Jessica Tisch, the city’s sanitation commissioner. “They are vestiges of a different time.”Ms. Tisch noted that the wire baskets were made up of a series of holes: “That’s the fundamental design feature which allows the rats to get in them,” she said.

A Huge Threat to the U.S. Budget Has Receded. For decades, runaway Medicare spending was the story of the federal budget. Budget news often sounds apocalyptic, but the Medicare trend has been unexpectedly good for federal spending, saving taxpayers a huge amount relative to projections. In a recent letter to the Senate Budget Committee, economists at the Congressional Budget Office described the huge reductions in its Medicare forecasts between 2010 and 2020. Medicare is growing more slowly than ever, but still more quickly than the rest of the federal budget.
